Meeting Date: November 14, 2007 Attendance General: 19 Officers: 4 Special guests: none Club president Ron Magdanz called the meeting to order at 7:06pm It was noted that our last official meeting was May 5, 2007, meeting minutes were not read by club secretary, Charlie Haven. Treasurer’s report was read by club treasurer, Jerry Quella Motion to accept treasures report: Eric Johnson Second the motion: Kyle Quella Old Business Ron Magdanz spoke that the ballots for club treasurer election need to be destroyed. A motion was made by Eric Johnson to destroy the ballots and seconded by Dan Vixmer. Motion passed unanimous. New Business Ron Magdanz addressed the club, the offices open for election this year are Vice President and secretary. Ron asked the club if there were any nominations for the position of Secretary. Josh Jeske nominated Peggy Rusch for the position of secretary, Peggy Rusch accepted. Ryan Heiting nominated Charlie Haven for the position of secretary, Charlie Haven declined. Ron asked the club for nominations for the position of Vice President. John Roeser nominated Rob Vandermoss, Rob Vandermoss accepted. Steve Rusch nominated Josh Jeske, Josh Jeske accepted. Ron Magdanz addressed the club that the awards banquet date needs to be decided so we can reserve a room at Colonial House. Dates were discussed for the month of October and it was mentioned we should avoid the FRRC banquet date and many thought it was the third weekend of October. Ron asked for a show of hands for October 11, 2008 for the awards banquet, it was unanimously approved. Away Racing Series Tracks Ron addressed the club that 141 Speedway was leased and he spoke to the people in charge and the program for 2008 was supposed to be the same as 2007, therefore we should be asked back for the Red, White, and Blue series race dates. Josh Jeske thought we might be able to race at WIR for the Red, White, and Blue races and someone should investigate that possibility. Ron Magdanz addressed the club that he was contacted by Wausau Speedway and we are invited to complete there any time. Race dates are Thursdays, track is a big, flat ¼ mile. Ron addressed the club that Madison is interested in us. Ryan Heiting responded that we should go during a Wisconsin Challenge series race event, Ron confirmed that's the dates they want us. Ron addressed the club that the Dell's Speedway is interested in us competing in their small car nationals event, the same event as this year. Discussion of Rules (no voting) Ron addressed the club that discussions only would be done, voting on rule changes would take place during the December meeting. Fee's: It was discussed that the club should impose late fees earlier in the season for the club to raise money for body parts. It was suggested that the late fee's start after the end of business during the February club meeting . Both truck and member late fees should be an additional $10. Age Rule: It was discussed that the age rule should be dropped to 14. Josh Jeske commented that it's not the age rather the ability to drive and we should police the ability not the age. It was agreed a probable rule to add would be to follow the age per track rules. Helmets: It was stated that we follow the track rules concerning helmets and the FRRC rule for 2008 will be that Snell rated SA2005 helmets would be required. Chassis: Josh Jeske stated he saw bugar bars that were bolted to chassis with U bolts, he thought they should be welded for safety or use at least a grade 5 U bolt. Kyle Quella stated bugar bars should collapse for safety and not be rigid. Jerry Quella stated this should be up to the safety/technical committee to judge if they are safe. Josh Jeske stated we should tech more often for bumper height possibly weekly. Steve Rusch commented we should have a distance from top of helmet to top of roll cage and it should be 2 inches for safety. Dan Vixmer said that may impose more serious problems with drivers laying down more putting their feet closer to the front making it a bigger problem. Todd Kostichka stated, make it a recommendation rather than rule similar to our fire retardant underwear recommendation. Engines: The engine rule concerning the 508cc rule was discussed in great length much like last year. Dan Vixmer asked if we could get a show of hands to see if club members thought it was stated correctly that all engines had to start under 508cc's and remain under 508cc's. 11 thought is was correctly stated and 5 thought it was incorrectly stated. Josh Jeske stated that the 540SRV motor was stated that it was a legal motor on the internet minutes, he was asked what dates and how was it stated, he did not know either. Josh thought the rule should be written that the 508cc should be the total number no matter how you got there sleeving up or down. Ron Magdanz stated last year he thought the rule was unclear that's why there was a vote on the 540 SRV motor to determine if it was illegal or legal. John Roeser discussed maybe we should use only factory blocks, heads, and cylinders and use sleeves made for that particular motor only. Jerry Quella stated that the motor rule is written fine for the Phazer motor. Dan Vixmer stated maybe we should run Phazer motors to keep costs down. Josh Jeske wanted to know who had problem with the 540 SRV motor, Ron Magdanz stated the larger motors have greater potential for horsepower increases in the larger area of transfer ports. Jerry Quella stated during our tech committee meeting to discuss rules we were focused on that the trucks are an entry class and costs should be kept down. Josh Jeske thought this is not a starter class. Steve Rusch stated if we want this to be a starter class we should run stock Phazer motors. It was replied that then we are right back at the beginning on making tech inspection difficult. Josh Jeske stated we should go to liquid cooled motors and Randy Yeager would be proud of him that he brought the subject up. Internal Engine modifications: Todd Kostichka stated external modifications should be limited to repair only. Steve Rusch asked if he expanded the cylinder to case gasket area, would that be a legal modification, Ron Magdanz stated no. Josh Jeske stated the rule should be written to capture repairs only. Dan Vixmer asked about welding cylinders if porting breaks through to the outside, it was stated that it would be illegal. Carburetors: Ron Magdanz discussed if the grinding//modifications to the bell (intake) side of the carburetor should be permitted because many people already have carbs that have been modified and we don't want others to have to buy new carburetors. Josh Jeske thought the modifications were OK. Dan Vixmer asked if holes for primers were permitted, Ron thought they should be. Exhaust: Should the rule be evaluated for quietness again? Rob Vandermoss stated the Dynoport muffler is roughly $300. Jerry Quella stated that loudness is not the problem but the pitch. Josh Jeske stated that Charlie Haven did measure decibels and maybe we should go off of those measurements. Ron Asked for any new ideas. Scott Baker stated he thought the noisy trucks were the ones running aluminum silencers, the 18 and 66 truck. Jerry stated that maybe club members should be able to recommend to the officers that a truck in noisy. Scott Baker stated the officers should police the noise more. Body Tail modifications: It was discussed if holes should be allowed in the tails to remove heat from the engine compartment. Josh Jeske stated if done professional he didn't see a problem. Ron Magdanz stated if allowed the club will need specifications on the permitted modifications. Jerry Quella stated maybe we could come up with a template. Scott Baker said the holes are there to get rid of heat. Ron Magdanz stated holes could make the tail sections weaker. Josh Jeske didn't like the idea of a template because it may not be available when he's building his body. Show of hands were taken to see if the club should allow tail modifications: 10 to allow holes and 4 to allow no modifications. Josh Jeske stated we should specify all chassis material because rebar should not be used for safety reasons, example the 71 truck should not be able to use rebar in the chassis. Radios: Ron Magdanz stated the one way RaceCeiver would be good for the club in speeding up shows for line ups and to alert drivers of caution flags for safety. Only the flagman can speak to drivers. Also the FRRC has asked for ideas on how to speed up their show. Jerry Quella stated the flagman will only talk to drivers as they pass under the flag tower. Scott Baker said why not make it a two way radio so people can use them if they chose to move up to the half mile. Scott indicated he thought the total cost for two way radio set for a team would be $600. Kip May stated that he has run RaceCeivers in the past and he's had problems with them not working after 8 races and it's hard to hear them and batteries only last one week. Troy Selner stated he's used them and they aren't loud and some divisions can't use them for that reason. Troy said the RaceCeiver had no effect on speeding the show up at 141. Kip May said the RaceCeiver is the right idea for safety, but it's not the right product. Jerry Quella said he has contacted Fox Valley Sheet metal to get six sets of sides made, he will need money by December meeting if you want one of those sets. Cost is unknown till the vendor buys the aluminum, but they thought only a $5 increase. Josh Jeske stated we should discuss the 2 spin rule more closely with the FRRC because Randy Yeager got screwed last year when he spun to avoid a crash. It was stated that an idea was to meet with the FRRC officers every week to discuss concerns. Scott Baker stated that he tried to point out several times that dirt was on the track and the FRRC did nothing, Dan Lewis was the only person who noticed Scott. Ron Magdanz stated for the 2008 season the Sport Trucks will be giving the FRRC a list of concerns weekly. Josh Jeske said we should bring up this list every week in our driver meeting. A motion to end the meeting was made by Josh Jeske and seconded by Eric Johnson, Unanimous approved.
